Last night I did a class at Fusion Fitness MMA on Mclean in Elgin. My wife had set up a play date with one of the owners daughters and we started chatting about his passion for jujitsu. Glenn has been practicing for 8 years and made it sound too good to pass up so I showed up for a trail class. He is also a native Elginite who runs a hand full of businesses.

I’ll admit I was a bit nervous pulling up to the facility. Walking in the door I was greeted by a guy named Randy who teaches Muay Thai. More of the kick boxing style of fighting. Randy and everyone there were very cool and walked me through everything. The building is clean and set up very nicely with a changing room and plenty of storage for you bags.

Glenn mentioned to me that Fusion Fitness MMA’s goal is to appeal to working professionals and people who want to improve their fitness through martial arts. They try to make it as non-intimidating as possible and they did a good job of this.

Anyway, by the end of the session I was completely spent. My abs were destroyed from learning to crawl on my back sideways. Crazy. The great part about it is I was not thinking about how tired I was, just concentrating on learning the techniques. I am not a big fan of going to the gym because your mind is left to concentrate on the pain so this was a nice change for me. The techniques of jujitsu are really cool to learn and not easy. I have a lot of respect for these guys and look forward to learning more.

If your looking to get into Jujitsu or Muay Thai check this place out. Let me know if you end up going, would be cool to hear what you think.
