Buckets 'o Death is the answer for unwelcome rodents.  Fill a 5-gallon bucket two-thirds with water.  Sprinkle sunflower seeds on top of the water.  Place bucket where rodent will find it (wood pile, next to deck or stoop).  Scoop out dead rodent(s).  This is what we have resorted to doing when the ground squirrels (looks like a chipmunk, but smaller) invade.
